Stillness of Color - The South of Italy

  • Italian photographer Franco Fontana (b. 1933) is a pioneer of color photography, internationally acclaimed for reinterpreting landscapes and urban spaces through geometric compositions and bold fields of color. His aesthetic has had a lasting influence on subsequent generations of landscape and abstract photographers. Fontana’s works are held in the collections of major institutions including the International Center of Photography, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University. A major retrospective held in Rome (2024 – 2025) presented over 200 works, capturing his artistic journey.
